Fed: Police ask to see green AU Falcons to find hit run driver

By Elizabeth Gosch and Jordan Baker

CANBERRA, Dec 29 AAP - Australian Federal Police today asked to inspect all green AU
model Ford Falcons in Canberra in a bid to find the driver involved in a hit-and-run death.

Police believe a dark green late model Falcon was involved in the death of Sally Ann
Goodwin, 33, who lay injured beside a major road for up to seven hours early on Boxing
Day.

The mother-of-three, who was last seen about 11.30pm (AEDT) on Christmas night, was
spotted at 7am beside Northbourne Avenue by a passing truck driver.

She was taken to Canberra Hospital with severe head injuries and died a short time later.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) said forensic testing had confirmed the car believed
to be involved in her death was a dark green AU Falcon.

In the first appeal of its kind in the ACT, police asked owners of green AU Ford Falcons
to contact them for a brief inspection of their vehicles.

"Police are asking owners of green AU Ford Falcons to bring their vehicles to the City
Police Station ... between 7am and 5pm on Saturday, 30 December," an AFP statement said.

An AFP spokesman said police were looking for a vehicle with damage to its front grille
area and possibly windscreen.

He said police could not compel drivers to bring their cars in and could not be absolutely
certain the responsible driver lived in the region.

"But if people bring their cars forward they can be eliminated from the investigation," he said.

Police found skid marks and glass fragments near where Ms Goodwin was found. One of
her red shoes lay in the middle of the road amid the glass, in full view of passing motorists.

Police are also anxious to speak to a man seen standing next to a white car of unknown
make on the median strip near the accident scene about one hour before Ms Goodwin was
found.

The man is described as thin, dark-haired and aged between 30 and 40. He is about 180
cm tall and was wearing dark trousers and a short-sleeved check shirt.

The police have appealed to the driver of the white car or anyone with information
about the incident to contact them on 6256 7777 or to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333
000.

Northbourne Avenue is the main road through Canberra's north. It becomes the Federal
Highway north of Canberra - the main road to Sydney.
